Introduction to Professional Coaching

Introduction to Professional Coaching:

Quick opportunity to upskill, earn a new certificate, experience and learn the basics of Professional Coaching.

Coaching is one of the fastest-growing industries worldwide. That means you can make a difference and earn a living coaching others (even if you don’t have experience or doubt yourself). The benefits of coaching include:

  •         Lifestyle freedom – Setting your own hours and living life on your terms. You can even coach effectively on the phone.
  •         Uncapped possibilities – A big reason why many people are seeing it as the smart alternative to their 9-5 job.
  •         Pandemic proof business – Can be done face to face, or virtually. You can work from the comfort of your own home or anywhere in the world.
  •         Get paid for your Personal Development – You are effectively earning as you learn.
  •         Unlimited applications – you can walk into a business and start coaching the owners, and their staff, or work in the virtual world.

The problem is once you start researching coaching courses, there is so much conflicting information out there. Most companies make it sound more complex than it actually is and people begin doubting their abilities and start believing they must become super successful first in order to make a living helping others.

The truth is, becoming a successful coach is a PROCESS. And it’s not difficult when you are taught correctly. Coaching is a set of skills, and skills can be learned. These skills are guided by your deeper unconscious. Once your deeper unconscious is aligned and trained, the skills come out with ease.

The second big truth, you will need to be good, but you may not need certifications. There are countless associations, boards and organisations appearing to be authorities in the field and some of the biggest become the biggest by lowering standards. Doesn’t sound right hey. Boards lowering standards, but it’s true, it’s one way to make sure you can get more people and grow.

Your clients care more about how confident and professional you are as a coach and the results you help empower them to achieve. Our training will help you get started faster.

In our “Introduction to Professional Coaching” sessions, we are teaching you the basics of ICF style coaching and corporate coaching, so you can learn and start to coach like a pro without spending thousands and thousands of dollars.

Butterfly Life Coaching

Scene 1: Man fails to pass his life lesson and waits nervously for what Life has to tell him

Man: Oh gosh. I failed again. So what’s next?
Life: Another rehearsal.
Man: Another rehearsal. Oh no!
Life: Why not?
Man: It’s challenging.
Life: Yes, it is but would you like to stay as a caterpillar in the cocoon and learn nothing or would you fly like a butterfly so you can experience the world and discover all the beauty in life?
Man: Well, I’d like to learn and gain new experience but I am not sure if I can do that.

To be continued…

We are all put on the stage called Life without having a script or a rehearsal. We diligently play our roles every day. Sometimes we tend to forget, however, our roles can be changed and we always have a chance to rewrite or change the play and have another rehearsal. It is possible to get different perception of ourselves and the world. It is like what a caterpillar does when it breaks its cocoon and transforms into a butterfly. Interestingly enough, we are often unaware that life is full of learning process and our real growth can begin with getting out of the cocoon, our comfort zone of which we rarely step out. Why is that?

It is probably because we fear losing what we are familiar with and pursue what is safe. Also, there is something else that affects our decision to break the cocoon. Society imposes us Life is such a serious mission that we need to work hard to accomplish something. But the truth is often completely opposite. It has been scientifically proven that people who allow themselves to be playful and do not take life circumstances too seriously are more creative and live happier life. The key to break the cocoon lies in spontaneity and creativity in a playful way.

Experts say anyone can be creative even though different people have different talents. “It really has to do with open-mindedness,” says Dr. Carrie Barron, co-author of “The Creativity Cure”. She also suggests creativity can be applied to everything from preparing a meal to generating a business plan. Creativity and spontaneity have the same root: the present moment. When we are in the “flow” of immersing in creative work, we do not pay attention to anything else. It stretches our awareness and allows us to see life circumstances from different perspectives. This kind of state produces long lasting happiness, joy and enthusiasm as a driving force in our lives.

As an expat in Shanghai, anyone can experience the well-known mood roller coaster anytime. But playfulness is what makes seemingly challenging situations less serious and brings creative solutions for current problems. Jooyoung and Morana have had so much fun creating Life Coaching Rehearsals and being engaged with workshop’s participants. It is certainly a challenging job but in the same time very rewarding because it enables them to step out of the cocoon, learn and grow. Every single moment is a new beginning. It is a new rehearsal to rewrite a play called Life.

Adapted techniques from the Theater are our tool to lead people through the self-discovery journey. Coaching mindset is an integral part that follows each theater activity by having reflective discussions.

There is always a new chance for the change whatever challenges we face. It deepens our understanding of the Art of living.

Scene 2: After spending some time to contemplate, Man becomes impatient and asks to Life again

Man: Okay, you are right, I definitely want to FLY.
Life: Terrific! I knew you would when you joined Butterfly Life Coaching Session.

Break the cocoon! Become aware. You can FLY!!!

Workshop | Cultivating Leaders through trust and service

Wednesday, 21th February 2018, Lilian Shen for MOTIVATE Shanghai

True leaders are not only leading, they are cultivating new leaders and teams through service. We are often led by fear, fear of the unpredictable and try to control situations that are out of our control, especially as leaders where the risks are higher.

In this programme, participants will understand the tools and mindset of improvisers and how these can be used to help them build trust amongst their team. We can better trust others through trusting ourselves and facing our fears head on.

The following article by Samuel Edwards will give you some leadership keys:

When it comes to building a team that can work efficiently together, accomplish mutual goals, and still maintain a good morale while doing so, there’s no more significant quality than trust. Trust allows you to delegate a task without worrying whether it will get done. It allows for faster, more open communication, and gives people a sense that they truly belong within your organization. But trust doesn’t come naturally or easily, and it’s a leader’s job to inspire and facilitate that trust in a team environment. How do the strongest leaders of the business world accomplish this?

1.    Patience. First, you need to demonstrate a strong sense of patience. It’s tempting to want to rush things as much as possible, especially if your business is new or young, but that level of impetuousness creates an uncomfortable environment for your team. Pressure is good, but too much pressure can make employees feel like they’re worthless unless they hit your unrealistic goals. Impatience can also imply that you suffer from a degree of impetuousness, which makes your team doubt your motives, or your capacity to lead a team in the first place. Instead, take your time in your thoughts and actions, and express understanding when things go wrong.

2.    Calm. You’re going to face some emotionally challenging moments as a leader, and often as a direct result of your team’s actions. During these moments, it’s essential that you remain as calm as possible. Feel free to express your emotions, even if those emotions are negative (more on that in a moment), but do so in a restrained, stoic manner. The minute you fly off the handle at anything–whether it’s a team member or circumstances beyond any of your control, your team will start to see you as unstable. They’ll be afraid to come to you with negative information or criticisms, and their trust in their environments will shrink.

3.    Transparency. One of the best ways to build trust with others is to show your personal side. If you make yourself vulnerable and express something in confidence to your team, they’ll be more or less inclined to reciprocate. Remain as transparent as possible in your actions as a leader, letting your team know what you’re thinking, the motivations behind your direction, and any doubts or concerns you may have. Remember, as a leader, you’ll be serving as a role model, so the more transparent you are in your actions, the more transparent your team will be in theirs. They’ll also learn to see you as a more sympathetic human being, which is indispensable.

4.    Openness. To build trust, you’ll also need to establish an open environment, where all team members are encouraged to express their thoughts and opinions. You can do this in your team meetings, by asking that everyone bring something to the table. Facilitate conversation by allowing every team member to speak, and make sure all your other team members show respect and listen to each other. This open environment will gradually teach your team that it’s okay to voice an opinion.

5.    Flexibility. Demonstrating a bit of flexibility in your workplace can also facilitate trust. When workers feel more comfortable in the workplace, they’ll treat it almost as a second home, and they’ll treat their coworkers a bit like family members. This is significantly trickier to pull off in the context of a large corporation, but smaller companies and startups should have no trouble allowing this flexibility and creating this type of environment. For example, you can allow more time for personal breaks, establish flexible hours or remote work days, or offer negotiable deadlines on certain projects and tasks. This is an implied demonstration of trust to your workers, and again, they’ll be likely to reciprocate.

6.    Mutual feedback. Feedback is the only way for anything to improve, and it has to work both ways. When you give your workers honest feedback (positive or negative, so long as it’s constructive), it shows that you’re genuinely invested in their development. When workers give you feedback and you sincerely listen to it (and/or act upon it), they’ll feel more empowered, and more secure in their positions. Only by giving and receiving feedback in this way will you be able to generate enough trust to delve into deeper and more controversial forms of feedback.

7.    Ongoing team exercises. Team trust is best facilitated through active team engagement, but that doesn’t always mean working together on projects and tasks. It could mean conducting teambuilding exercises, or something less formal like having lunch or office gatherings after hours. Your teammates need to get to know each other on a personal level, at least to some degree, if they’re going to trust and support one another. Every team member is unique, and they’ll need to engage with the group to account for one another’s strengths and weaknesses.

These are tactics, dispositions, and characteristics that strong leaders can use to build trust within a team–but don’t expect them to be shortcuts. In many cases, these are merely prerequisites, or pre-existing environmental conditions that allow for the development of trust, rather than creating it directly. Trust requires time and experience, as your workers spend more time with one another and become more familiar with their circumstances. Don’t try to rush the process, or you’ll end up negating your efforts.
